Breaking Barriers to Support Diversity in the Sport of Rowing.

Who we are

At Evanston High School Rowing, our core mission is to enhance diversity, equity, and access to competitive high school rowing in the Evanston community. We envision a coed team that reflects the rich diversity of Evanston, where athletes from any background can compete.

Through the collaborative efforts of the ETHS Athletic Department and local community organizations, we work towards creating an inclusive and accessible space where student-athletes of all backgrounds feel welcomed and able to succeed in our sport.

Why Join ETHS Rowing

ETHS Rowing is one of the only public school rowing clubs in the Chicagoland area. We are a new team to the Chicago area rowing community and therefore have the incredible opportunity to build a new, inclusive rowing culture for present and future Wildkits.

By joining, you become part of a close-knit community dedicated to reshaping the landscape of the sport and the larger Evanston community. Our aim is to encourage every individual to participate and thrive, foster personal growth, and cultivate lifelong skills in a safe, fun, and competitive setting. Together, we can inspire the next generation of rowers in Evanston.

How to Support Us

ETHS Rowing is dedicated to making rowing accessible and inclusive to all. Our dedication to breaking barriers of exclusivity means that we do not gatekeep access to the sport of rowing because of an inability to pay. That means that we do not charge excessive fees to participate. Our community stays open to all because of the generosity of folks like you. Help us to keep our community financially strong by donating today.

Fall Season

Varsity tryouts are for returning athletes and will be held August 11-15. Both Boy's and Girl's Varsity tryouts are one week long with water and land components. Full attendance is required for consideration of a roster spot.

All new athletes can join rowing with no prior experience and have at least one no-cut season (Fall and/or Winter). Many join in the Fall, our no-cut Club group, where no previous rowing experience is required. Spring is a tryout-based season at all levels - Novice Boys, Novice Girls, Boys Varsity, and Girls Varsity Teams. Either Fall season or Winter training is required for Spring. For Novice, development over time (Fall and/or Winter) is part of the Spring tryout consideration.

As a requirement of participation at any level, all student-athletes are evaluated on their swimming abilities in the Water Safety Test at the start of season to ensure they can safely participate. Swim ability does not prevent full participation, but must be assessed to ensure athletes can participate safely. Learn more about the Varsity and Spring Novice tryout criteria here.
