The Rutgers Report: Tidings from an ETHS Rowing Alum

Hello ETHS Rowing friends and supporters!

I have officially made it through a whole semester of college, and I am excited to offer you news of my experiences; the Rutgers Report, if you will.

It has been interesting living on the east coast and getting acclimated to “jersey”. So far I have learned that frequent Wawa trips are an obligation, whether central jersey actually exists as a region is a heated debate, (I thought Rutgers was in central jersey??), additionally, I have witnessed some jaw dropping roadway maneuvers that might make even a Chicago driver clutch their pearls.

On the academic side, I have enjoyed my time so far at school and have adjusted to having a very different class schedule (and classes for that matter). One of my biggest mountains to climb this semester will be getting through 4-hour biology lab at 8:00 am every Thursday (boo). At the moment, I am planning to major in exercise science with a focus on physical therapy.

As far as rowing goes, I have been quite challenged. I feel super happy and lucky to be a part of Rutgers Women’s Rowing, and have made huge improvements since the start of the school year, in addition to meeting a lot of really cool people. I got to race in The Princeton Chase in the fall, and more recently went on a training trip to Deland, Florida. Between academics and practicing 20+ hours a week, one could say that my time is reasonably occupied. Looking to the spring, Rutgers Rowing is gearing up for Big10 championships on May 17th. Currently, we are covering about 170-180k meters a week, but we are looking to increase that to 200k+ in the spring. Let's just say I’m excited for the Raritan to thaw out so we can share some of that coverage with the water in conjunction with the erg. All things considered, I miss Evanston a lot and can’t wait to visit again, but I am also excited to see what the spring brings.

Go Kits! and RU Rah Rah!
